Moms Night Out- Movie Review of “Bad Moms”

I actually took a night off from my kids, so I had a Mom’s Night out and thought I’d give you a movie review! I’m sure that most of you have already seen “Bad Moms” at this point. If you haven’t, and you are a mom (with a sense of humor) you should go see this movie! Starring Mila Kunis, Kristen Bell and Kathryn Hahn, this movie says what we are all thinking at some point in our life in regards to love, your kids and your morals.

Summary from IMDB:

A woman with a seemingly perfect life – a great marriage, overachieving kids, beautiful home, stunning looks and still holding down a career. However she’s over-worked, over committed and exhausted to the point that she’s about to snap. Fed up, she joins forces with two other over-stressed moms and all go on a quest to liberate themselves from conventional responsibilities, going on a wild un-mom like binge of freedom, fun and self-indulgence – putting them on a collision course with PTA Queen Bee Gwendolyn and her clique of devoted perfect moms.

First of all, this movie isn’t going to win any academy awards; the acting is over the top, the overall attire on the women is not realistic, but more stereotypical than anything and some of the scenes are just over-the-top ridiculous.

Let’s start with Mila Kunis’ character, Amy. She works “part-time” at a corporate office for a coffee company even though she puts in over 40 hours a week. Everyone is dressed casually and looks like they are fresh out of college. She is dressed impeccable as if she works in a law office and runs all over town to pick up her kids, do all of the household chores, cook, clean and still manage to do her kids homework in high heeled shoes. Her make up is flawless and her hair is done every single day. (Yeah, sorry…..I’m not buying it.)

Kathryn Hahn’s character, Carla is an uber-trashy, foul-mouthed, over sexualized mom who makes out with anyone in the movie and drinks all day. She has a son who she spends little time with because all he does is play baseball. Although she is the mom who most women would NOT relate with, she is the comic relief that the movie thrives on. She is the quintessential “over-the-top” mom who in the end turns out to be a great friend. (I loved her….and those outfits!)

Kristen Bell plays Kiki. She is your mom that has a ton of kids that are all young. She gets no free time to herself and is totally obedient to her husband. She is silly and nieve all at once, which is cute . She is the kind of mom that always has cookies baking and irons underwear because it’s the right thing to do. (This is the mom that gets the attention she deserves in the end once she realizes her worth! That a girl!)

Don’t even get me started on how ridiculous Christina Applegate’s character, Gwendolyn, is. She is the spoiled rotten, rich, conniving PTA President that will stop at nothing to keep her position. The movie portrays her as a slave driver that even the school faculty are scared of. (I still wouldn’t run against her in the elections!)

Movie review Bad Moms

If you’ve seen the movie, then you know how it ends. Overall, it’s a feel good chick flick that you would probably enjoy. If not for the comic relief of living out every single mom fantasy you’ve ever had, then at least for the eye-candy widowed dad who manages to steal the scene every time he appears on screen. My girlfriends and I had a great time at this movie….but it’s also because we never get to go to the movies! And in typical mom fashion, we managed to go on a Tuesday night when movies are only $5.00 at our local theatre.

(Sorry for the spoilers! I’m such a bad mom!)

Have you seen the movie? What did you think?
