We’ve been spending so much time in Wisconsin lately. Since we live so close to the border, we have access to so many things that are unique to Kenosha County. From farm visits to all of the amazing food and beverages, Wisconsin has so much to offer!
We had a fun-filled day that started with the (once a year event) in Kenosha- the Kenosha County Dairy Breakfast. Every year, a different dairy farm hosts the event. This year, it was held at the Spoerlein Never Rest Farms, in Brighton, WI.
We had the pancake breakfast at the farm, and then got to freely walk around and see all of the cows and the milking operations. They milk 220 Holstein cows two times a day in a milking parlor. They produce 15,000 pounds of milk a day, which is shipped to a dairy. They run 900 acres of land and the crops are hay, soy beans, wheat, and corn. The farm is hormone free.
There was a children’s play area, which we spent the majority of the time in. The girls loved playing in the saw dust box, and in the corn seed pool! Then, they got to take a ride around the farm in a little shuttle car pulled by a tractor! Lastly, we checked out all of the farm equipment and got to sit in the drivers seat of a few of their combines and tractors.
For dinner, we were graciously hosted by the new Valeo’s Pizza that just opened in Pleasant Prairie, Wisconsin. Just across the parking lot from Target, this is the pizza restaurant’s second location. Their first restaurant is located in Kenosha, and has been operating for over 50 years!
Since they just opened up their second restaurant in October, they are getting into the swing of things and ready to take on the summer side of business. School is out and a lot of families will surely be dining here!
We got a chance to talk to one of the owners and he gave us a brief history of the restaurant. This is a great family restaurant and they have a fun-filled menu that will cater to anyone’s appetite!
We had to try their pizza special, a 16″ specialty pizza and cheesy bread! We also enjoyed a veggie salad and then a cookie pie for dessert! They carry an amazing soda line (Tractor Soda Co.), and have a small bar area with beer, wine and cocktails!
Everything was delicious there and we will definitely be back! There are a ton of pizzas and appetizers I want to try in the future! Have you been to Valeo’s Pizza before? Give me all of your recommendations!
<Update: this location has closed, but their Kenosha location is still open!>
This post is making me hungry! I love getting the kids out to the farm, such great memories 🙂
I agree! I love making these memories with them!
what an amazing experience! I love the sensory activities
This looks like such fun! The next time we visit my brother in WI, we may try to make a side trip to Kenosha County.
sounds like a fun time and a chance to experience something different, at least for me it’d be!
Your entire tripped looked like such a great time!!
Our family loves exploring places like this!! So much to do!
This looks like so much fun! I’ve never been to Wisconsin, but we have access to similar activities back home in New England. Especially in Vermont 🙂
Taking the kids to enjoy activities at a farm always guarantees a fun time. They not only learn about the animals and the crops, they also learn to appreciate the hard work farmers do for us to have the food we eat. Kenosha County in Wisconsin is such a beautiful place, and has terrific food too!
I love spotlights on regions I’ve never heard of! That farm sounds like so much fun with kids, that corn filled pool would be hours of fun for my little one.
These are such beautiful memories you captured! It makes me want to visit Kenosha county! That pizza dinner was everything!
Farm visits are so amazing! Even I can enjoy the activities done by the little kids.
That food alone makes me want to visit. I love visiting different places nearby that are different enough that it feels extra fun.
