There are so many things that I wish I knew now versus when we had our first child. Things like materials, preservatives, chemicals and additives were on the radar, but not until we really started looking into the things that our kids where using and consuming. Have you thought about what goes into choosing the best crib mattress for your little one? (If you said “no”, you’re not alone!)
When I composed my first baby registry about 5 year ago, never would I have thought about my child’s sleep safety and what goes into mattresses in general. I put on my registry a crib that was: 1. affordable, 2. comparable for the crib, 3. “looked good”, and 4. felt firm and not cheaply made.
Fast forward to today, and now I have done my research on crib mattresses, thanks to Newton Baby. Their mission is to bring safer, healthier, better sleep to babies and peace of mind to parents. Once you get one of their crib mattresses, you will instantly see, feel and smell the difference (#breathe2believe Challenge)

The 2-stage crib mattress is made with Breathe-Thru Technology allowing you to literally breathe right through it which greatly reduces the risk of suffocation. It allows air to flow freely for optimal breathability and temperature regulation to help your baby stay asleep longer. I un-zipped the mattress cover and took a look at the inside:
You can see that first off, it’s 100% breathable. The Wovenaire® core is made of safe, food grade polymer. You can rest assured that your baby can breathe through the 3D cloud cover and the mattress. Plus, the 3D cover is fully removable and washable!
Compared to the old crib mattress, you can definitely see the difference in quality and comfort. The old mattress is waterproof, but you can see the cracks on the surface. It probably would not hold up for our next child. You can also see it’s losing its “bounce” and durability, compared to the Newton Baby mattress.
Why is choosing a GOOD mattress a GOOD idea?
You probably do not know what is in your mattress to begin with. Things like polyurethane foams, boric acid, flame retardants, formaldehyde (to name a few), are hazardous to our health, and for as much time as you spend in your bed, it’s important to choose the best and safest materials, especially for our kids.
I love that the Newton Baby crib mattress is recyclable. This means that there are no foams, glues, latex or springs inside. The mattresses are 100% washable and they are Greenguard Gold certified.
(Direct from their website: Newton Baby products have been independently tested and certified by UL to meet Greenguard Gold standards for the lowest chemical emissions. The standards are among the most rigorous in the world to test for the lowest measurements of chemical emissions such as VOCs, and certifies that Newton products help to promote a healthier indoor air quality.)
The Newton Baby crib mattress is firm enough for your baby and perfect for the toddler bed transition. At 11 pounds, it is light enough to change sheets without any problem. Have a spill? The cover is machine washable and the inner core can be sprayed down in the tub or shower to keep the mattress hygienic.
