Gotta Love the Terrible Twos

Yup, it’s true what they say when they talk about the “Terrible Twos”. My toddler definitely has her moments right now. First off, she decided to stop taking naps this year (from taking 1-2/day). That means that all day long, I pretty much have to listen to her chat, sing, scream, dance and play around me. On the rare occasion that she does take a nap, it’s because she has passed out on the couch (or on the floor) on her own. I would say that occurs a couple times a week.

One thing that she does do well at this age: Pout. She is the queen of putting her head down and making you feel sorry for her. She is incredible adorable and knows how to work her charm, as I almost always give in to whatever it is she wants. The reason I do is because I never want her to feel like I don’t give her attention throughout the day, since I often am holding Emmy or spending time trying to get Emmy to nap.

The Terrible Twos

If you do tell her that she needs a nap, she immediately tells you “no” and throws a small tantrum. I’ve just learned to let her sleep when she wants and not force it, since telling her she needs a nap always puts her in a bad mood.

Her sudden lack of interest in food is killing me. The only thing she really wants to eat is crackers, dairy and fruit. I try to limit how much milk, yogurt and cheese she gets a day and always offer a fruit to her first. If I try to offer meat, or veggies….she says “YUCK!”. Oh well, I am hoping it’s a phase.

The Terrible Twos

She’s the boss right now and tells me what she wants to do. I hear a lot of “I want a snack”, “I want to go swimming”, “Mommy, I want to go to the playground” and “Let’s go see Reese” (her neighborhood bestie). I feel like she’s a puppy and I have to go run her everyday. Literally every morning I try to think of some place, or some thing to keep her occupied for a few hours. Pent up energy and a toddler = craziness! She jumps all over the furniture and makes huge messes everywhere with her toys. It’s a never-ending battle of clean-up!

Terrible Twos

So, I clearly get it…toddlers are balls of energy! What are your toddlers doing (or what did they do) that really drives you crazy?

  1. I’m with ya mama!! AIden has been a crazy man. We dropped naps before he was even two and he was not ready for it then. He’s adapted and does well without them now but I’m so jealous of people who have kids that like sleep. LOL. Aiden is a nonstop talker. It’s so fun to hear all the funny things that come out of his mouth.
