It’s amazing how the weather went from the 50’s to the 80’s in the span of one week! I know we shouldn’t complain, but summer weather hit hard before spring has even ended. With it being the Memorial Day weekend, it let us enjoy being outdoors as a family, and remembering all of those who risked their lives for our country.
Friday, Cory worked from home, so it was great to be able to at least spend some time with him. He pulled out the kids “slip and slide” from the garage attic and set it up for them outside. The kids (and I) and had great time, splashing around in the water and enjoying some snacks outside on the lawn.
We ended the day by heading into town to get a new gas grill for our deck. The one we had was a hand-me-down, and just about seen it’s last grilling season. With it being so hot, we decided to get a small pop up gazebo as well, to provide some shade to our deck, which faces the sun in the afternoon. A great buy, if you ask me!
Our deck wouldn’t be complete without a few flowering pots. We let the girls pick out some pretty flowers to plant and even re-planted Charli’s marigolds that she started growing in school this year! We can’t wait to see what color they are!
Saturday morning came before we knew it, and it was another scorcher. We set up the sprinkler out back and let the girls have some more fun in the water, while we cleaned house and did some more lawn work. Then, more playtime outside, riding their bikes (Emmy loves her new Piki Piki Bike!)
As an annual tradition, Cory goes up to a local lake in Wisconsin to ride with his mountain biking friends. Luckily, this park has a huge lake for people to swim and ride their boats in. The girls and I spent a couple of hours relaxing and playing in the water, until Cory met back up with us.
Fortunately, we had a slight breeze, to keep up cool in the 90 degree weather that day. Frequent dips into the water kept us cool and refreshed. The girls had fun looking for fish, and watching people on their jet skis in the distance.
Did I mention we also visited the kids godparents at their campground site after all of this? We have a nice state beach just down the street from our house, it’s perfect for local campers and beach goers. They grilled us a nice dinner, and we finished off the visit with S’mores, of course!
Memorial Day was spent relaxing at home. This really means that I was cleaning up the house, while the kids were busy making their usual messes. Cory enjoyed another bike ride out with his group up at a state park- their annual tradition. (At least I got my home workout in today. I’ve been trying to do 15-30 minutes every day, for my sanity!)
We grilled out again, and sitting on the deck was slightly uncomfortable with the heat. I made myself a “mocktail” and made the best of the mosquitos and sun beaming down on us. As I am typing this weekend recap, I am thoroughly enjoying the fact that I am all cleaned up, am not sweating, and that we have air conditioning!
Both kids are asleep and I’m enjoying rifling through all of the photos I took this weekend. I wish that I could say we attended lots of parties, but it truly was just a nice time with our family of four. We chatted up lots of neighbors this weekend, and caught up with everything going on in our small world.
So fun! What brand are those lavender sandals Emmy is wearing?
Those are the Sanuk yoga mat sandals! 🙂
Great weekend!
