Mother’s Day Weekend Recap

I hope all of you moms had a wonderful Mother’s Day this past weekend! Although I did not get breakfast in bed and a day to relax, we were able to spend some quality family time together. Cory had a mountain bike race up in Wisconsin on Sunday, so we packed up the car and made a little trip of it.

Because Cory had to go work up in Wisconsin on Monday anyway, he had a rental car and we just stayed at a hotel overnight on Sunday after his bike race. It was our first time driving in a big SUV, and it was great. It comfortably sat the 4 of us, plus our overnight bags and his bike gear.  We’ve been thinking about getting a larger SUV with baby #3 coming this fall, but we’ll have to see what fits in our budget and if I will be comfortable driving it!

Even though we spent the majority of the day driving and watching Cory’s bike race, the weather on Mother’s Day could not be beat. It was perfectly warm with a nice breeze flowing around us. The kids had fun playing with toys there and when it got too hot, we chilled out in the car. When his race was over, we loaded everything back in the car and headed north about 20 minutes to the hotel.

Once we checked in, we immediately headed into their indoor splash pool! The kids had a 30 minute nap in the car and were fully revived once they knew we were at the hotel. Emmy got to wear her new arm floaties and they both had a blast!

We were starving and so ready to go to dinner that night. For it being Mother’s Day, the restaurant that we found was not that crowded! (A plus for being out in a not-so-populated area that weekend!) I had a small dinner so that I could indulge in dessert, and to top it off, it was kids eat free night! (SCORE!)

Traveling with toddlers and infants can tricky when trying to settle everyone in for the night. Now that Emmy is older, we don’t bring her pack and play anymore and just let her sleep in a bed with one of us. We made sure to bring extra toys and coloring books in case they get bored in the room.

The next morning, Cory went to work in a nearby city, which ended up to be a little hectic by the end of the day. The girls and I headed back into the pool first thing and lucky for us, we had the place to ourself! I got to spend some quality time with them and practice some swimming techniques with each girl!

He was supposed to come and pick us up at 12:30pm, which was our check out time, but called me AT 12:30pm saying that he would be a couple hours late. So, the girls and I had to make the most of our time there. We showered, watched cartoons, played toys, then loaded up our gear and went to wait in the lobby for 2 hours!

We finally made it home at around 6pm on Monday evening. Mother’s Day has come and gone and I am thankful for the time spent with my family, despite the craziness.

I love our trips together and it feels like home even though we are away. I hope that you had a blessed day with the ones you love, too!
