We have been eating strawberries like crazy now that they are in season! It’s a great time of year to head over to your local farm or field that is open to the public for getting this fresh and nutritious summer berry! When I saw that the Thompson Strawberry Farm in Bristol, WI was open today, I knew I wanted to take the girls to their first strawberry picking!
We’ve never picked strawberries together and now that Emmy is old enough, I jumped at the chance for us to get there early and get first pickings. The location of this farm is ideal, as it is right over the border of Wisconsin and so easily accessible off of Hwy 50.
It turned out to be really hot while we were there, so we spent about 1/2 an hour there-filled up our basket and headed back to the car to get into the air conditioning! Next time, we’ll remember to carry our water bottles into the field while picking the berries.
We managed to get the first of the crop, so it took us a while to go through all of the rows to grab ones that looked ready. The girls loved having their own baskets and showing me what berries they picked.
I’m sure that we will go through these strawberries before the week ends. There is nothing better than fresh cut strawberries, and topping our vanilla ice cream with our favorite summer fruit!
I hope to be back with Cory next time, so he can get in on the fun with the girls. We decided to go without him today so that we could enjoy their opening day! Along with strawberries, they also grow raspberries and pumpkins at this farm! Go check them out if you’re in the area or looking for something fun to do with your family!
