Why We Can’t Wait To Go Back To Nashville

A kind of spur of the moment vacation, we planned a trip to Nashville about 2 weeks before we left. The hubby decided he was ready to use some vacation days and we both eagerly agreed to go to Nashville, since we had both never been there before. We are definitely ones to choose beach-y type of vacations, but I think we wanted some place that we could road trip to and not have to fuss with flying.

We knew that we would drive, so the only thing on my mind was “where would we stay?”. Having heard great things about Airbnb, we decided to look into a house to stay at instead of a hotel. (If you’ve never heard of Airbnb before, find out more HERE. Plus, if you sign up using my link, you get $40 off your first stay!! Score!)

From Chicago, it is about an 8.5 hour drive. We broke up the trip by visiting some family, which was nice. With 2 kids and grandma in the back, you know how road trips can get. We were pleasantly surprised at the beautiful terrain surrounding us as we entered downtown Nashville. Living in Illinois, you know how flat the land is, so seeing rolling hills was really nice.

We checked into our house with no problems. It was a modern 2 bedroom house in a nice suburb in the 12 South area. It was a short 10 minute drive to get into downtown, which we didn’t mind at all. If you have the chance to stay in 12 South area, we recommend it! It has a charming downtown area with a bunch of trendy shops and quaint eateries. Of course, we had to stop in to Five Daughters Bakery!

Unfortunately for us, we had rain for the majority of the time we were in Nashville. After we get settled into our house, we immediately drove into downtown to see Broadway Street (the major thoroughfare in downtown Nashville). Being huge country music fans, we did not want to miss lower Broadway Street, which is the renowned country music entertainment district.

What started out as a light rain turned into heavy downpour within an hour of our arrival. So what does one do to wait out the rain? Stop by Savannah’s Candy Kitchen for a sweet treat! I tried the “Nash Hash” and it didn’t disappoint!

After the rain, we just had to go into a couple different boot stores to try on the finest cowboy boots in the land! Although we didn’t come home with any, I have a feeling I will buy them the next time we come here. We both regret nothing getting a pair! And look at how cute Charli is in them…am I right?

If you can sneak away for the day with your significant other, which we did get one day to do (thank you mom!!), you must go to a honkey tonk! On the fourth of July, we actually had no rain that day and we took full advantage of being outdoors and bar hopping on Broadway Street. The two must-do bars while you are there are Tootsie’s Orchid Lounge and Honkey Tonk Central.

Both bars are world famous and known for the great live acts that they attract. We were not let down at either place. We listened to wonderful live music and danced like we were in our 20’s again!

(We are country music fans, so it was amazing to get to see such talented artists sing all of our favorite songs). We also stopped in to Florida Georgia Line’s new bar “FGL House”, which was pretty cool!

After we were done with the bar scene for the trip, we wanted to see some of the sights that Nashville is really known for: The Grand Ole Opry and the Country Music Hall of Fame Museum. Both offer tours inside to get a glimpse of the wonderful history and current happenings in the world of country music.

While there was so much more we wanted to do while we were there: The Nashville Zoo, Centennial Park, the Gaylord Opryland Resort Gardens, actually go to a taping at the Grand Ole Opry, there was just not enough time and too much rain! We will definitely be back!

We recommend Nashville for couples and families. There is a ton of stuff to do for all ages and I’m sure that there are better times of the year to visit for the activities that you want to do. We were there over 4th of July and the riverwalk put on a great fireworks show, not to mention and amazing FREE outdoor concert featuring Chris Young!

Have you been to Nashville? What was your favorite thing to do there? We were big fans of the bar scene and would like to do a couples trip there next time!
