How do you know when your baby is ready to start solid foods? I remember when my little one would start looking at us as we ate and reaching out for the spoon to try to put it into her mouth. We didn’t want to give it to her yet, but we knew that when she was ready, we would go to the store to get her the perfect first food: Gerber cereal.
When it’s time to start solids, which is usually around the 6 month mark, infants, especially breastfed babies, need an additional source of iron in their diet. Infant cereals are the #1 source of iron for babies 6-12 months of age. Make sure you choose an iron-fortified cereal like Gerber cereals to ensure they are getting the proper nutrients that they need. We got our Gerber cereal at our local Walmart.
Now we all know that feeding your baby can be messy, challenging and fun at all the same time. Seeing them eat for the first time is a huge milestone that you will never forget. When they make faces, and start signaling for more, you really take in those special moments. My little one really enjoyed Gerber cereal from the start. We started with the Rice cereal, then moved on to Oatmeal. We just found the Multigrain cereal the other day, so I look forward to giving that to her next!
Gerber cereals are great to mix up- you can use your breastmilk or formula and adjust it to the consistency that they will like. You can also mix it in with pureed fruits or vegetables that they are starting to eat. Since infants should start out with single grains first, introduce rice cereal first, then oatmeal, then multigrain. Some benefits to Gerber cereal is that just 2 servings a day provide 90% of their daily iron needs! They are made with calcium to help build strong bones and teeth, are non-GMO and there are no artificial flavors or colors!
Pick up Gerber baby cereal at your local Walmart when your baby is ready to start solids! They satisfy your baby’s taste buds as well as meet their developmental needs.

I really like the new packaging! when mine were at the age to eat oatmeal, it was in the box and I felt like we could never get the last bit out without tearing the package apart…
Yes, the plastic (BPA free) packaging is much better!
