With Christmas being two months away, it’s never too early to start thinking about how you are going to celebrate it. We usually stay in the comfort of our own house, maybe making an appearance at another family member or friends house if they are around.
We love to stay in our pajamas and lounge around while making a nice meal and watching the kids enjoy the gifts that Santa brought them. To us, that is our tradition. With our family being so young, we need to start making new ones!
I love the idea of counting down the downs until Christmas arrives. The year prior, for an advent calendar, we did a simple one with chocolates behind each day. This year, we will be introducing a new sort of advent calendar to the kids: The 25 Days of Christ.
As we start on the first day of December, we will study the life and teachings of Jesus Christ. The sets contains 25 symbolic ornaments, a booklet outlining each day’s scriptural passage and story, and a small drawstring bag to keep the day’s ornament hidden until it is ready to be unwrapped.
With our oldest in preschool a couple of days a week, they include religious teachings as part of the curriculum. This is the perfect time to include the whole family in the daily devotional readings as we hang a daily ornament on the tree.
25 beautiful ornaments are hand-painted and each represent a certain story or meaning in the story of Jesus. The kids will love seeing all of the new pieces get revealed with each passing day. Let them hang the ornaments on the tree so they can partake in the daily activity.
(You can also choose versions of the daily devotionals in a non-denominational New Testament Edition or a version tailored to LDS families in the New Testament and Book of Mormon Edition.) I hope you will join me in celebrating the 25 Days Of Christ with a new tradition this year!
